Dream Daddy manages to break the well-worn cliches and tropes dating simulators tend to fall into to create an enjoyable experience. You’ll be crushing on these characters even if they break your heart in the end. Griffis recalls the switch from the game being about dads having sex to being about relationships came towards the end of development when character arcs had been fully established. The lack of references by characters to their sexual orientation came from the developers feeling that most media dealing with queer people was about societal issues and not about the relationships themselves. pThe dad jokes… oh they are painfully wonderful. The moments between your character and Amanda can be almost tear-jerking at times, and the interactions between you and the other dads are great, be them good or bad. I want to unlock all the secrets and dad endings./p
pI expected a Daddy Dating Simulator, and by golly it was delivered. I thoroughly enjoyed making several different dads to date the… The game itself had a few issues, like minor grammatical and spelling errors, a few glitches when loading previous saves, and a few crashes , but overall the music, the art, the story… Everything felt fun and I could tell how much work was put into it! I really want to congratulate the whole DDADDS team for keeping their chins up even though people kept yelling at them for the delay in release. After about an hour of set up, the game introduces Dadbook./p
pSpeaking of dates, each character has three dates to go on, putting you in various situations that’ll help you learn more about the Dad of your choice. Some of the paths have simple minigames to play as well, such as match-3 type games and timing based games, but the majority of the game will be reading words, reading situations, and responding appropriately. Dream Daddy gives you a choice of seven fetching fathers to attempt to romance, and uses the hit social media site Dadbook to track your budding Dad friendships. I was also very impressed in how inclusive the game strove to be in terms of representation; when constructing your Dadsona, there’s the option to make your character transgender. Similarly in the first interactions with your daughter the player can choose to establish whether their spouse was male or female, and then if their daughter is their biological daughter or not./p

pI was also pleasantly surprised by the writing, dating sims sometimes have a tendency to be a little cringey I did not experience that with this game. If I had any complaints at all it would be that I wish there were a few more options in character creation especially for eyes and mouths and I wish it was longer! But the game has so much replayability that it doesn’t really matter if it’s not super long. Overall this game is a lot of fun and if you like dating sims, visual novels or if you just love hot dads I highly recommend this game. It is wonderfully put together, from the art to the music to the coloring to the minigames to the ingenious writing and story telling./p

pNo dating sim has really captured me the way that Dream Daddy does (and no, being gay doesn’t contribute to that bias at aaaalll). What seems like a joke is actually a setup to a warm-hearted and humorous visual novel as you charm your way into the heart of up to seven different dads, each with their own very unique characterizations. From the moment I went into Create-A-Dad and saw that making Danny Sexbang was a possibility, I knew this was going to be a good game./p
pIt was really fun, and quite the challenge to chose the right answers. I am greatly enjoying the game and look forward to finishing it. I like that you can choose to be a naughty dad, a fun dad, or a shy dad. There’s all kinds of characters, fun dad jokes, and hilarious interaction with townspeople. My favorite character is definitely the daughter, Amanda./p
pIt’s a feelgood game, from its tongue-in-cheek Dream Weaver-esque theme tune to its message of acceptance and generally being excellent to one another. The entire game lives on its writing, which is universally excellent and works on multiple levels whether you’re a parent or the child of one. If you’re after rock-hard anime abs and mechanics that promise ‘innovative’ use of HD rumble, you may be disappointed with Dream Daddy. For everyone else, it’s a good-natured, good-humoured visual novel with themes of acceptance and love that’ll warm the cockles of the coldest heart./p
pAmanda is about to go off to college and you are trying to make a new life after the death of your spouse. From here, you can go on various dates with different dad’s in the neighborhood. The dates focus on small relationships and character building among the different people. At first glance, the various bachelors do have a small stereotype type attached to them, but are built off of that stereotype in very unique ways. The “athletic” dad, Craig, is a former friend from your partying college days, but is now coping with the ever growing responsibility on his shoulders./p
pDespite that, what is there is great—the characters are diverse, well designed, and smartly written. I was smiling for pretty much my entire time playing, and it always felt like a positive game. Dream Daddy is a dating simulator that allows you to make your own character or “Dadsona” to play the field with some fine dads. pBut it’s the little nuances in each Dad’s story that make you fall in love with the game. There’s complexity in the story lines and these characters aren’t just fulfilling some trash fan service. It’s quite the opposite and genuinely portrays a wholesome dating experience. Opting for Unity detracts from the visual novel experience in that the game does not include so many features one would expect. There’s no option to change text speed, auto option, highlighting of previously-selected choices or dialogue history. These are just expected from the genre and are baked into engines like Ren’py./p
